introduction

You are invited to participate in an online survey. This research project is being conducted by the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) on behalf of the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

What is the purpose of the survey?

We are interested in understanding what the public think about Art UK, the online platform that brings together every public collection of art in the United Kingdom. The results of the research will enable the government, other public bodies, and arts and cultural organisations to understand the value that the public places on cultural institutions that create free digital access to significant sections of the UK’s cultural heritage, in this case art. You do not have to have had prior experience of Art UK to participate in this research.

This is a hypothetical survey to help the researchers understand how people feel about Art UK. During this survey, we will present a hypothetical scenario to you, which will require you to imagine how much you would be willing to pay for something which is not currently charged for. You will not be asked to pay any money at the end of this survey. This hypothetical situation is theoretical. We would like you to be honest and answer as if these scenarios were real.

Do I have to take part?

No, your participation in this survey is voluntary. We would welcome your input but there is no obligation for you to do so. You may refuse to take part in the research or exit the survey at any time.

What do I have to do?

We would like you to answer the questions in the survey as openly and honestly as you can. It should only take you around 8 minutes to complete.

Will my taking part in this project be kept confidential?

All the information collected during this research will be kept strictly confidential. You will not be identifiable in any reports or publications. Any data collected will be stored and processed under strict compliance with the UK Data Protection Act (GDPR) 2018. This data will be used only for research purposes by BIT, an independent research organisation.

What will happen to the data?

The data is collected in an anonymised format. It will remain within BIT, DCMS and Art UK and will not be shared further.

Who can I contact in relation to this research/survey?

If you have questions about the research project or any requests related to this survey, please contact predictiv@bi.team.
